Getting Your Home Ready for the New Season!

After The Home Edit's new Netflix series came out most of the world (myself included) decided to reorganize their homes. Having a beautifully organized home makes you happy, calm and have clearer focus in life. When the system is functional for the long run it saves you time and also money by not buying duplicates of things you already have. Here are some ways you can update and organize your home.

1) Pick One

That's right pick one specific area not a whole room. Like a desk for example, take one day to take everything off the desk, clean it and throw away anything unnecessary. Then decide what layout of the remaining items would make it most functional for you on a daily basis. Buy organizational tools such as bins, files, a file cabinet, drawer dividers, etc. that would make items easier to see and use.

2) Sections

Create seperate spaces for each type of item. Give every item a home. You can color coordinate (rainbow like T.H.E does), organize by day, type, events or any other method that works best for you and the particular items. For example, maybe you have two kids with different sports and activities everyday of the week. So you get a big cubby style dresser and put the days of the week on the top and put a bin with each activity's items/clothes for that day in order of use underneath in each section. So Monday the top bin would be the school uniform and backpack, second bin a soccer uniform and ball. Tuesday, the uniform and second a sheet of music for piano practice, etc. This would be cute for surprising kids on the weekends too like a swimsuit, goggles and pail to go to the beach.

3) Labels

Use labels to identify what is in the bins, especially if they are not clear ones. This is good for seasonal storage like Christmas decor or summer clothes. It can also be great in the kitchen when you have four types of flour or sugar in clear containers so you know which one is which!

4) Schedule It

Schedule time to organize. Make it a priority either one day a week for most of the day or several times in smaller spurts throughout the week, such as 30 minutes to an hour. Don't try to redo the whole house in one day.

5) Get Creative

This can be a fun process. Let your imagination run wild and find ways to organize that make you happy when you see it. For example, turn your jewelry into a boutique display by putting it on pretty white trays and getting bracelet holders or a necklace holder for special pieces you love. That way it feels like you are shopping in your own home every morning.
